Publication Ethics Statement

The Washington Journal of AI Systems and Analytics is an international, peer-reviewed academic journal published by Washington University of Science and Technology. This Publication Ethics Statement defines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publishing process, including authors, editors, editorial board members, reviewers, and the publisher. The journal follows the principles and best practices outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).


Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication

The publication of scholarly articles in a peer-reviewed journal is a fundamental contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge. It reflects the quality of the research conducted by authors and the academic standards of their affiliated institutions. The Washington Journal of AI Systems and Analytics is committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical behavior at all stages of the publication process.

The publisher and editorial team take responsibility for safeguarding editorial independence and ensuring that commercial interests, advertising, or external influences do not affect editorial decisions. The journal is committed to transparency, integrity, and academic accountability.


Duties of Editors

Publication Decisions

Editors are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be published based on their academic merit, originality, relevance, and methodological rigor. Decisions are guided by journal policies and applicable legal and ethical standards.

Fair Play

Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on intellectual content without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.

Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must not disclose information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisors, or the publisher.

Conflicts of Interest

Editors must not use unpublished materials from submitted manuscripts for their own research without written consent from the authors.


Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists editors in making publication decisions and helps authors improve the quality of their manuscripts.

Promptness

Reviewers who feel unqualified or unable to complete a review promptly should notify the editor and decline the review.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and not shared or discussed without authorization.

Objectivity and Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviews should be objective and supported by clear arguments. Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited and report any potential overlap or plagiarism.

Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest and refrain from reviewing manuscripts where such conflicts exist.


Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors must present accurate, original, and objective accounts of their research, providing sufficient detail to allow replication.

Originality and Plagiarism

Submitted work must be original. Any use of others’ work must be properly cited. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable.

Multiple or Concurrent Publication

Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously or publish substantially similar work elsewhere.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the research. All co-authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to its submission.

Data Access and Retention

Authors should retain research data and provide access when requested, where practicable and ethically appropriate.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

All financial or other conflicts of interest and sources of funding must be disclosed.

Fundamental Errors

Authors must promptly notify the editor if significant errors are discovered in published work and cooperate in correction or retraction.
